COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The NJCAA national office released this week’s rankings for football and Northwest Mississippi Community College, at 8-1 overall with three Top 20 wins, has made the jump from No. 6 up to No. 2 in the nation.

The Rangers received three of nine first-place votes and 193.5 total points. Rochester (Minn.) is ranked No. 1 with six first-place votes and 201 points.

From its No. 6 spot last week, Northwest jumped previous No. 1 Butler, which lost 25-20 to Garden City, No. 3 East Mississippi, who was disqualified from the postseason after a benches-clearing brawl at Mississippi Delta, No. 4 Coffeyville and No. 5 Central Lakes (Minn.).

The last time the Rangers were ranked No. 2 was in the NJCAA preseason poll prior to the 2004 season.
