No. 11 Lions Repeat as LSC Champions with 27-14 Win vs. No. 10 Mustangs

No. 11 A&M-Commerce finished its Lone Star Conference slate with a perfect 6-0 record after creating five turnovers in a 27-14 win over No. 10 ranked Midwestern State Saturday in Memorial Stadium to claim the program’s 22nd conference championship.

The Lions defense stepped up in the biggest way creating three fourth quarter turnovers. Brucks Saathoff picked off a pass on the first play in the fourth frame to set up a Lions field goal.  The Mustangs fumbled a handoff only to see Tyree Barton pounce on the loose ball with 11:12 on the clock in the quarter, and Darian Lindsey sealed the game with an interception with 2:54 left…Complete Release

Greyhounds Close Blackwater Draw in Style With Record-Setting Performance Against #24 Angelo State

Eastern New Mexico (6-2; LSC 3-2) closed the doors on Greyhound Stadium at Blackwater Draw with a performance for the ages against 24th-ranked Angelo State (5-3; LSC 2-3). Three Greyhound players rushed for over 100 yards to set a new team record with 583 rushing yards, en-route to a 46-28 win in Lone Star Conference action.

Prior to the contest, Eastern honored all of the seniors on its roster. The win was the second for the Hounds in the last three meetings with Angelo State, but the first at home since a 38-14 victory on October 1, 2005. Eastern last defeated the Rams 29-28 in 2013, after a rally from a 28-0 deficit.

Kamal Cass and Tayshaun Gary rushed for 188 and 139 yards respectively, each with three touchdowns to lead the way. Both set career-highs in rushing yards. Jeremy Buurma added 123 rushing yards, while D’Maujeric Tucker chipped in 69 yards on the ground…Complete Release

Buffs Overcome Rain, Wind and Javelinas; Win 24-14

On a rainy and windy night in South Texas, the West Texas A&M Buffs got a hard-fought, 24-14 victory Saturday evening, snapping a three-game skid and spoiling Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Homecoming.  The Buffs improved to 3-4 on the year and 2-3 in Lone Star Conference play.  TAMUK fell to 1-7 on the year and 0-5 in league play.

WT senior Geremy Alridge-Mitchell set a new school-record in carries with 45 as he recorded 149 yards on the ground with one touchdown.  Alridge-Mitchell set the previous school-record of 40 carries at Midwestern State on Oct. 10.  Sophomore quarterback Ethan Brinkley was 12 of 21 for 121 yards and a touchdown, while senior Jarrian Rhone caught five balls for 49 yards and a score.

The Buffs had 378 yards of offense with 121 passing yards and 257 rushing yards to go along with 25 first downs.  WT held TAMUK to 193 yards of total offense on 136 rushing yards and just 57 yards passing, while the Javelinas had just 11 first downs…Complete Release
