The Kilgore College Rangers accepted the program’s 20th bowl bid on Tuesday and will face East Central Community College (Mississippi) on Dec. 5 in the C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl.

The game is set for 11 a.m. at Bulldawg Stadium in Copperas Cove, and it will be a top 20 national matchup. Kilgore is ranked 20th and ECCC 15th in the final NJCAA poll.

Kilgore will ride a four-game winning streak and take a 7-4 record into the contest. The Rangers were 3-4 overall and in danger of missing the playoffs in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference before visiting Blinn and coming away with a 17-9 win.

Kilgore College then defeated arch rival Tyler in double overtime (23-17) to earn the No. 4 spot in the playoffs, and won a road game at Trinity Valley (24-21 in overtime) to earn a berth in the conference championship game.

KC knocked off Navarro, 42-28, in Corsicana to win the SWJCFC title.

East Central Community College, located in Decatur, Mississippi, plays in the Mississippi Association of Community & Junior Colleges. The Warriors (7-3) qualified for the playoffs but lost in the first round to No. 1 ranked Northwest Mississippi, 27-20.

ECCC’s other two losses this season came to ranked teams — Copiah-Lincoln and Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Kilgore is 11-8 in its previous 19 bowl appearances, including a 47-36 loss to Northwest Mississippi in the inaugural Brazos Valley Bowl played at Texas A&M University’s Kyle Field in College Station.

The Rangers have played in the C.H.A.M.P.S Heart of Texas Bowl twice, defeating Fort Scott (Kansas) 19-7 in 2006 and falling to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 62-28 in 2007.

Tickets will go on sale Monday, Nov. 23, in the KC Athletic Office.

KC will be able to keep proceeds for the first 250 reserved tickets sold, so Ranger fans are encouraged to purchase tickets from KC.

Reserved tickets are $20 each.
