Heart of Texas Bowl previews NJCAA Region 14 final weekend

COPPERAS COVE, TX – The final weekend of NJCAA Region XIV play is going to be nothing short of exciting. With No. 6 Tyler Junior College and No. 14 Trinity Valley CC entering it tied atop the district standings.

Both Tyler JC and Trinity Valley CC come in at 4-1 in the district standings, but have already played each other with Tyler JC winning that opening week shootout 71-64.

Since then the only loss Tyler JC has suffered was a 40-23 defeat to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College on Sept. 19.

Outside of those two games both Tyler JC and Trinity Valley CC have put on a show, both climbing in the most recent NJCAA Rankings.

In the final weekend Trinity Valley CC will have to try and avoid the same fate as Tyler JC when it faces Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (4-4, 2-3).

For Tyler JC it gets Kilgore College (4-4, 2-3), while Blinn (5-3, 2-3) and Navarro College (5-3, 3-2) clash in a battle for third and fourth place in Region XIV.

This will serve to be a key weekend in the seeding for the Southwest Junior College Football Conference Playoffs, which begin Oct. 31.

Impressive Play

There is no doubt that Region XIV has seen some impressive play this season with two players getting recognized with NJCAA Player of the Week Awards this season.

Tyler JC quarterback Sederian Copeland winning the NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week award twice already. Copeland has gone 90-for-141 for 1, 798 yards with 23 touchdowns and three picks. Copeland can also run the ball toting the rock 58 times for 391 yards and a team-leading eight touchdowns.

Copeland will definitely up for more awards as the season concludes with the prolific numbers he has posted.

The other player to get a nod from the NJCAA has been Trinity Valley QB Jerod Evans.

Evans has put on a show at Trinity Valley passing for 3,164 yards with 38 touchdowns and three interceptions. Evans’ passing numbers lead Region XIV by leaps and bounds. Also Evans has been able to run the ball leading the team with 414 yards on the ground and four scores.

Both quarterbacks are very good and will be put on display this weekend and in the SWJCFC Playoffs and potentially in the 2015 Heart of Texas Bowl.
