Goodwell, Okla.—The Aggies look to make a mark this week as they travel to Stephenville, Texas for their second Lone Star Conference match-up this season; taking on Tarleton State at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 in what is shaping up to be a rain-soaked “slosh-fest.”

A 90 percent chance of showers won’t put a damper on the Aggies’ ambitions to feed off the momentum from their recent winning streak and earn their first LSC win. Coach Russell Gaskamp feels his team has a great opportunity to do just that against a good Tarleton football team saying, “This is a game that could put our program on the map.”

The Texans sit 1-5 on the season earning their lone win by a narrow four-point margin against fellow LSC team Texas A&M-Kingsville on Oct. 10. But don’t let the record fool you, Tarleton has proved a tough opponent averaging 33.33 points and close to 450 yards of total offense per game. “We are going to have to play much better than we have lately to accomplish, what many would consider, an upset.” Gaskamp added.

The Aggies, now 4-2, have the tools it takes to get the job done and have put up some pretty good numbers themselves thus far; they have averaged 42 points per game and 471.7 total yards offensively per game. Gaskamp continued, “Our main focus is to execute and play a physical football game for the full 60 minutes; something I don’t feel like we’ve done yet this season.”

These two teams have met up once before in 1992 when OPSU took a 7-31 loss to the Texans in Stephenville. Saturday’s game will be somewhat of a homecoming for many Aggie players from the DFW and Central Texas area and Coach Gas feels that his team will be ready to show up and play well in front of family and friends. Gaskamp himself will have a bit of a family reunion on game day as his nephew Garrett Gaskamp will suit up for the opposing team as reserve linebacker.

With all that is encompassed, this match-up could be the start of a great new rivalry for OPSU Football. Aggie fans can keep up with the action via live stats and video/audio feeds; links are available on the football schedule page of the OPSU Aggie Athletics website. Safe travels and best of luck to our Aggie Football team, fans and coaches!
